Denis Ormesher - Director of Rugby

Denis was born in Liverpool and educated at St. Edward’s College and Sheffield University. He played for Sheffield University and for Liverpool. Denis joined Luton from National One League Club Bedford Blues where he coached for 8 years, coaching the 2nd XV and U19 squad, and managed the Blues Academy to become probably the best non-RFU funded Academy in the country. (The Blues U19s are the current holders of the National Colts Knock Out Cup, becoming the first side ever to win the cup two years running in May 2008. Seven of the current Blues 1st XV squad have come through the Blues Academy over the last few years). Before joining the Blues Academy Denis coached in the Junior Blues for 4 years. He has also worked with the East Midlands Under 18 squads and coached the East Midlands Under 20s. Denis is a RFU Level 4 Coach and RFU Coach Trainer/Assessor. Denis works in a Global Business Development and Operations role for a Pharmaceutical Contract Organisation. He is married with a daughter and two rugby playing sons. Matt was born in Farnborough and educated at St. Dunstan's College, Catford and Loughborough University. Matt, a centre, played club rugby for Northampton Saints, Cardiff and Bedford Blues. He has played 11 times for England “A”, toured Australia and Argentina with England, and has made 6 appearances for the Barbarians. Matt made more than 180 appearances for Northampton, where he won a European Cup Winner’s Medal when Saints beat Munster in 2000. He spent three years with Cardiff before joining Bedford, where he has been captain for the last 4 years, making over 100 appearances for the Blues. Matt, who is married with 2 children (7 year old Emily and 5 year old Thomas), is a RFU Level 2 Coach, and is employed, as a Player Development Manager, by the Professional Rugby Players Association where is he responsible for providing career advice to professional players in three Midlands Premiership clubs (Northampton, Saracens and Worcester). Matt is Player/Coach and captain of the Luton 1st XV. Ian was born in Forres, Morayshire but was brought up in St Albans, attending St Albans Grammar School for Boys where his interest in rugby was fostered. Ian played for a variety of teams including Old Verulamians, St Luke's College Exeter, Gordano RFC, Yatton RFC and Shelford RFC, and started coaching whilst at St.Luke's College completing a PE teacher training degree. He is an RFU Level 4 coach, an accredited RFU trainer/mentor and has wide experience of coaching and coach education. Ian has coached club rugby, academy sides, the Scottish Exiles, national divisional representative squads and has been involved in national U18 squad coaching. Ian is a former Head of Physical Education and taught for twenty three years in a number of educational settings before moving to his current post as the General Manager and Director of Rugby at Cambridge University Rugby Club. James, born in Parkes, New South Wales, Australia, and currently the Bedford Blues and Canadian International World Cup full back, will be assisting Luton Rugby with coaching this year. James, who has gained his Level 1 and Level 2 RFU Coaching awards in the last 12 months will be working as an “occasional” member the Luton coaching team with a focus on specialist backs skills. James, who is Australian born, and Canadian qualified through his grandfather, has 20 caps for Canada. He appeared for Canada in this year’s Churchill Cup, and he has played in the last two World Cups, in 2003 and in 2007, when he was Canada's main kicker for the tournament, in which he played in all four of Canada's pool games against Wales, Fiji, Japan and Australia. James played Rugby League in Australia before converting to Rugby Union with the Randwick side in Sydney. He came to England in 2001 to play for Bedford Blues. He has since played for Prairie Fire in Canada, Perpignan in France, and Northampton Saints before moving back to Bedford Blues in 2007. Dean was born in Essex and is married to Jennifer. He played football as a youngster and had trials at Arsenal FC. He trained and qualified as a physiotherapist in 1992 as well as attaining a 1st class honours degree in sports science and holds the internationally recognised NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist award. He worked within premier league football and national league rugby before joining Luton RFC inDecember 2001, and currently heads up ‘Optimum’, a successful sports performance company. Dean lectures in sports rehabilitation and exercise physiology at the University of Bedfordshire as well as guest lecturing on the ACSM HFI award, while at the same time working towards his PhD in exercise physiology and biomechanics. Sam was born, and educated in Southampton. She then gained a First Class Honours degree in Sports Therapy from the University of Luton. Sam works as a Sports Therapist for the Great Britain Triathlon/Duathlon squad, is currently completing a Masters qualification, she also lectures Sports Therapy at degree level. Samantha enjoys travelling, spending time with friends and plays Netball for Luton Tornadoes. She is also a Spinning Instructor at a local establishment and operates within a well known Sports Injury Clinic. Sam works with the 1st XV squad and is responsible for their match day Sports Therapy and Medical Support. Steve was born in Cornwall but due to his father's work in the Navy lived in various places throughout Britain before settling in Pembrokeshire where he was educated at Haverfordwest Grammar School before attending Loughborough College to train as a PE teacher. On qualifying he moved to Bedfordshire and played for two seasons at Dunstablians before joining Luton in 1978. He captained Luton for several seasons before being instrumental in starting up the mini and youth section at the club After several seasons as Club Chairman and Colts Coach Steve volunteered his services as 1st XV Manager and is very much enjoying the challenge of helping to return the club to National Leagues. Following 10 years of being a Headteacher Steve now has a more relaxed career as a School Sport Co-ordinator which gives him more time to spend at the rugby club! Ken was born in Bridlington and educated at Bridlington School, home of the longest successful kick in a rugby match (still a world record), though he preferred to belong to the cross-country team. He attended Royal Holloway College where he concentrated on all sports and games more than on his studies. Ken took up rugby at the age of 42 and has coached juniors at club level, most recently being head coach of Luton U17s. He says his playing achievements do not extend beyond fourth team captain at a previous club before an Achilles heel injury has brought his playing days to a temporary halt. Ken's other sporting interest is cricket and he has captained Dunstable Cricket Club fourth team for three years. He is currently Touch Judge for the 1st team having last year been LRFC's only Fourth Official. Ken, a Local Government Officer, has two sons, both playing rugby. Ken retired from the Civil Service in 2005 having worked in Customs & Excise and in the Department of Trade & Industry.
