Paul added, "It's nice to enjoy that winning feeling. We should have won a few games before today. The team was focused for the whole 80 mins. They had the right attitude and great belief in one another. It was a good team performance."
Tries from Harris and Hobbs and penalties from Hobbs and Povey saw Luton edge out Harrow who scored three tries.
On a wet and blustery afternoon Luton welcomed fellow league strugglers Harrow to Newlands. After a good performance but no points from last weekend's clash with CS Rugby Luton knew this was the time to kick start their season.
And home fans did not have to wait long to see some points but unfortunately they were scored by the opposition. After 4 mins concerted Harrow pressure on the Luton try line resulted in No. 8 West going over from short range. In difficult conditions Gibson could not add the conversion.
Luton got straight back into the match when in the 6 min Hobbs opened the Luton account with a penalty.
The home side settled into a period of sustained pressure with good handling testing the Harrow defence. Although they stayed strong it was at the cost of several infringements and Hobbs added a second penalty after a good break by Povey. Luton 6-5 Harrrow
As the half closed Harrow found their form and a slick passing move saw fullback Smith go over in the corner. Again Gibson could not add the extras but his side went in to the break with a narrow lead. Luton 6-10 Harrow.
The second half got underway with Luton having the advantage of the wind and the slope in their favour. However this did not help Hobbs with a penalty after 50 mins.
But Luton have grown into a resolute side. Kerr and Allen up front, Mahendran and Povey in the backs stood out, but they stuck to their tasks and reaped their rewards.
On 55 mins a move down the right saw Harris break a number of tackles to score under posts. Povey taking over from Hobbs with the kicking tee mastered the conditions and added the conversion. Luton 13-10 Harrow.
Luton were now in control and with 13 mins to go Hobbs turned try scorer as he took a sharp pass from the breakdown to sneak over in the corner. Povey's kick was only narrowly wide from the touch line. Luton 18-10 Harrow.
But there was still time for a dramatic finish as Harrow mounted a desperate late challenge which saw Vosabalavu go over in the corner from a lineout. Gibson came close to making it a one point game.
However Luton held firm even having a last minute penalty kick go wide. At the final whistle the players celebrated as if they had won the league rather than their first league game. Luton 18-15 Harrow.
A relieved first team manager Dicky Jones said afterwards, "I think it was that extra five percent extra intensity that took us over the line. It's been coming all season but we just lacked a bit of confidence. Today it was there. We looked confident with the ball in hand and the decisions we made.
"I feel like now could be the turning point for us. I've always believed that one win would get the ball rolling. It's important that we work hard in training and go into next week's game positively."
On the injury front Dicky had good news on back Aiden Kenny and forward Mobashar Mahmood who he hopes will be back soon.
