Luton still struggling to win

Luton manager Dicky Jones admits the club are in trouble after taking a 69 – 12 battering from Ruislip.
He said: “There are very few positives to take away from today; the club is in a very dark place at the moment.
“We took massive hits at the start of the season that we weren’t able to fix with fresh talent and as a result, we’ve lost 22 players and brought in seven or eight.
“We’ll continue to push until it’s mathematically impossible but the drop is ever-looming as this was one of the games that we had marked for a potential win.
“It’s very challenging when you haven’t got a squad to pick.”
The result leaves Luton at the bottom of the London One North table with three points.
Luton began the game brightly, making some good ground and got the first try in the fifth minute after David Hamm punted it high. A Ruislip player fumbled the catch which allowed him to grab the ball and get over, with Rick Hobbs kicking the extras.
The home side responded just two minutes later, as they formed a maul after a line-out and drove it over the try line, Stuart Pearham converting to make the score even.
The next try came from Ruislip after some good passing between the players in the 13th minute, making it 12 – 7.
Straight from the kick off, Seremaia Malawakula managed to run three quarters of the pitch and won a five metre scrum for his side.
Tom Garner was then yellow carded for deliberate offside, meaning Luton were a prop down. The scrum was therefore weak and Jonathan Fieldhouse got over with Pearham converting.
The 22nd minute saw the visitors get back into the game as Casimir Abaka pounced on a free ball following a bad pass from Ruislip and kicked it over the line for Hamm to score a try.
However, the lead was extended once more just three minutes later when Ryan Hendry attempted to intercept a pass and gave it to Daniel Walton who had a free run to the try line.
Ruislip were ruthless in attack, scoring from almost every attack as they got another two tries before the break and went into half time with the score at 38 – 12.
It only took the home side two minutes to score in the second half as Pearham found a gap in the defensive line and sprinted past the try line, kicking the extras also.
Luton managed to hang in for another 12 minutes until Joshua Horne-Thompson, who had been dangerous all game down the wing, made a great run down the field and passed it to Walton who got over again with Pearham converting again.
Ruislip were obviously not happy with the score line as they kept attacking in an attempt to completely humiliate their opponents. Conor Mullan played two exquisite kicks to assist two tries, one to Fieldhouse and another to Antonio Trofa.
The final try of the day was scored by Horne-Thompson as he sprinted down the wing again with ease and got over to end the game 69 – 12.
