LUTON RUGBY CLUB ANNOUNCE PLANS TO MOVE

PRESS RELEASE

LUTON RUGBY CLUB ANNOUNCE PLANS TO MOVE

Luton Rugby Club has announced plans to relocate to a new ground to the north of the town subject to planning permission.

Currently based on Newlands Road, the Club has been looking for a new site to meet its future needs for several years and this has culminated in the selection of a site to the west of Lower Sundon village and in close proximity to the proposed residential expansion to the north of Luton.

The Club’s existing ground at Newlands Road will be sold to a residential developer if the Club gets planning permission for the new site.

Pete Foster, Director of Relocation for Luton Rugby Club, said: “The Club has been considering a move for some years as it has outgrown its existing site and needs to improve its facilities. Newlands Road is no longer suitable for our needs and after an extensive search we have identified this site at Sundon Road, just to the north of the town and literally over the road from the proposed strategic residential expansion area.

“It is early days but we have held some very positive meetings with many organisations which has given us the confidence to progress with a planning application to progress our plans.”

The new facility will include a clubhouse with changing, spectator accommodation, and social facilities. Externally, the development will centre on two full sized floodlit 3G artificial grass pitches, natural grass pitches, access and car parking.

It is envisaged a planning application will be submitted in late spring and will hold a public consultation event over the next few weeks.
