Again, without playing to their full potential Luton dominated the game. However tries from Kenny, two from Allen and one from O'Grady saw Luton take control of a game.
Later Capt Alden said "we started slowly, we lost concentration in the first half, but I think we did well to get a bonus point win." Adding: "It's a long season but I think we've got enough quality in the squad to be a serious contender for the league."
Due to injuries to forwards O'Neill, Garner and Staff, coach Alston started with Spellen, Yang and Allen. A familiar back line, with Pickford making his full debut, was again well marshalled by Hobbs.
The first half failed come to life as both teams were guilty of poor passing, errors of judgement and missed opportunities. Untidy at times due to the wet conditions Luton defended well. However Vipers broke the deadlock taking the lead with a penalty.
But Luton came back quickly before the break. Taking full advantage of their hosts receiving a yellow card, Luton won a lineout and formed a rolling maul. From close range Kenny, enjoying a good game at inside centre, crashed over the line. From a difficult angle Hobbs added the conversion.
After the restart Luton wasted no time in extending their lead. Vipers failed to handle a high ball in front of their posts. Quick hands saw number 8 Allen cross unopposed. Again Hobbs was good from the tee.
Luton now took complete control with Vipers unable to break out of their half. In a repeat of their first try Luton won a line out and this time the maul crossed the line with Allen touching down for his second.
Although Vipers got a toe hold in the game with a simple penalty the Newlands men saved their best for last running in their bonus point try from 50 metres. From a scrum the visitors went blind with Hamm feeding O'Grady. Rounding off a fine game the winger evaded two defenders to score under the posts.
"It was good to get on the score sheet. Hammy put me in space and I put the gas on. I put the step in and went over the white wash", he added.
Leading by 20 points with time running out Luton relaxed and Vipers added try of their own before the final whistle.
Ending the day at the top of the table Luton manager Evans commented:"Coach Rhodes got in the huddle at half time and had a few words – that seemed to do the trick because in the first ten minutes after the restart we were exceptional."
Luton are on the road again next weekend with a visit to Market Harborough.
