It was a sobering performance from the side who took a sensational 22-21 victory against Oakham a little over a fortnight ago.
It was never going to be easy for Luton; who currently find themselves seventh in the league.
Old Laurentians are currently running second and have a chance of promotion.
As soon as the game got underway, poor defence was enough to give the home side seven easy points as Luton immediately found themselves on the back foot.
Despite this set back, Luton continued to challenge close to the Old Laurentians’ try line and Number 8 Matt Yang used his strength to ground the ball from a rolling maul and gave Luton an instant boost. Fullback David Hamm slotted his conversion.
The home edged in front again before another maul produced a second Luton score with hooker Ryan Sheppard claiming the try to bring the scores level. But that is a good as it got for the Newlands men.
However, the away side’s fundamental defensive flaws were exposed as Old Laurentians took advantage of Luton down the wings to score three tries before the break which ended 31-12.
The second half saw no fight from the team who needed to close the first half deficit.
They were consistently outdone by the better side and it looked as though Luton had given up as their heads and shoulders dropped. Scores came regularly with only a well worked Jake Hobbs try to cheer the sizable travelling support.
Luton have plenty of soul searching to do before Olney this weekend at Newlands
