Storm Brian didn’t have any effect on Luton’s current run of form as they won 69-0 against second bottom Stamford.

Tries from Rik Hobbs, Andy Davy, Jake Hobbs, Josh McFarlane, Denzel Edwards and doubles from Matt Yang, Stephen Cobb and Aidan Kenny meant that Luton retained their 100 percent win record and moved within one point of leaders Market Harborough.

Luton started the game well and after some good phases of play Stamford’s full back couldn’t stop fly half Rik Hobbs from diving over the line just two minutes in to make it 5-0.

Not surprisingly the strong wind made kicking difficult and Hobbs’ conversion went well wide.

The home side were much stronger than Stamford pushing them back play-after-play until scrum half Dave Evans passed it out from the ruck to Edwards, he sidestepped the defender five metres out and another two players couldn’t stop him crashing over the line to make it 10-0.

Luton then turned over the visitors scrum five metres out and number 8 Matt Yang dived onto the ball just over the line.

Hobbs was forced off due to injury so full back David Hamm took over kicking duties, but he fared no better..

Stamford couldn’t deal with Luton’s brute strength once again as Cobb forced his way over the try line beside the posts. There was nothing the wind could do to stop Hamm slotting the simple conversion between the posts to make it 22-0.

Good passing led to McFarlane and Cobb being 2-on-1 with the visitors full back, simple pass inside to Cobb five metres out left him unchallenged crossing the line to add on another five points.

Winger Kenny then went on a solo run from near the 40 metre line, a Stamford back slipped as Kenny ran towards him while a second player couldn’t catch him as he ran to touch the ball down between the posts.

Hamm had no problems with the simple conversion to send Luton into the interval with a 34 point advantage.

The home side scored again quickly into the second half, Evans played a short pass to Davy from the back of a ruck at the 5 metre line and three Stamford players couldn’t stop ‘Bear’ getting over the line between the posts. Hamm added the two points easily from only metres out.

Luton were too fast for the opposition this time, the play started from a scrum for the home side inside their own half, Evans picked up the ball from the scrum and played a cheeky pass around his back to Chris Davies, who side stepped a tackle and passed it to McFarlane, he quickly turned and laid it off to Hamm, the full back then passed it out to Kenny who had a clear run to the line and touched down between the posts.

Hamm converted easily from close range once more to make it 48-0.

Similar to the Yang’s try in the first half, the home team pushed a five metre scrum over the line and the number 8 dived on the ball to score once more.

More challenging conversion this time for Hamm, but with the wind in his favour he converted brilliantly from an angle on the 22.

Luton then used their strength to turn over another opposition scrum, Yang popped it up to Jake Hobbs who used his pace and strength to break through the back line and run, from the half way line to the try area unopposed.

Hamm converted easily directly in front of the posts once more to make it 62-0.

Hobbs then went on another brilliant solo run from his own 22, handed off an opposition player and played it inside to McFarlane who was left with a clear run to touch down between the posts. Hamm added on extra points for the fifth time to make it 69-0.

Luton’s next match will be at home against third placed Market Bosworth on November 4th.
