Luton Under 7s at Old Verulamians

Luton Under 7s played their first matches of 2015 with a trip to Old Verulamians on Sunday (18th January). They came away with three wins out of the four games played. Not bad.

For one reason or another, we had a lot of players missing - at least 5 of our regulars - so we travelled to OVs with just 11 players. We split them into Red and Green teams and both played two matches each (I had hoped for more games). 8 of our 11 players scored tries on the day, which is pleasing, but my target of 100% players scoring remains elusive.

As always, the Man of the Match awardees were very difficult to pick out.

For the Red Team, an honourable mention to Freddie who scored his usual hatful of tries, but more importantly is really starting to play a team member. He could have had a bunch more tries, but his selflessness shone through. The winner however was Harvey. Harvey is brand new to rugby, having only joined us last week. But he has taken to the game like the proverbial duck to water. Not only did he score a try on his debut, but his tagging was prolific and his defence was exemplary. Well done Harvey.

For the Green Team, Archie gets an honourable mention for his all-round great game: attacking, defending, always with his head up. However, the award this week goes to Isla who quite simply had her best game of the season. She was focused, did exactly what she was told ("run straight down there and score a try") and had a great day. Well done Isla.
