On Sunday (8th February), the Under 7s hosted Letchworth and Barnet at home. Letchworth requested a split into "A" and "B" teams as part of their preparation for a Festival, and ourselves and Barnet were happy to oblige. This is not our normal practice, and gave us a day of mixed fortunes as we won five games, drew one and lost four; unsurprisingly, our "B" team bearing the brunt of the loses. Scores and scorers were as follows:
Luton Red Team 8 v 4 Barnet
Tries: Daniel, Freddie (6), Harrison
Luton Red Team 8 v 6 Letchworth
Tries: Freddie (5), Harvey (2), Sammy
Luton Red Team 6 v 5 Letchworth
Tries: Freddie (4), Harvey, Sammy
Luton Green Team 4 v 5 Letchworth
Tries: Ben, Marcus, Sammy (2)
Luton Green Team 9 v 6 Barnet
Tries: Ben (3), Marcus (3), Gethin, Joe (2)
Luton Green Team 7 v 4 Barnet
Tries: Ben, Marcus (3), Gethin, Joe (2)
Luton White Team 4 v 6 Letchworth
Tries: Ollie, Archie (3)
Luton White Team 1 v 5 Letchworth
Tries: Archie
Luton White Team 7 v 9 Letchworth
Tries: Archie (3), Colby (4)
Luton White Team 3 v 3 Barnet
Tries: Jake, Archie (2)
Most pleasing, 13 of our 15 players scored tries! As usual, Man of the Match was extremely difficult to pick. Every player on the Green Team was exemplary, and it was impossible to single any one of them out as being better than their team mates. On the Red Team, an honourable mention to Freddie, not for his usual hatful of tries but for manic tagging. The winner was Sammy for his all-round game play: tries, tagging, defence, a complete performance. The other award went to one of our White Team players - another difficult choice to make. Despite their torrid morning, playing against opposition literally head and shoulders taller, they never let their heads down, never gave up. Honourable mentions to Archie for scoring in all four games, and to Colby who was a revelation in the 3rd match, but the winner was Jake who scored his very first try in only his second ever rugby match.
