The Under 7s travelled over to Cambridge yesterday for a friendly fixture. We had an earlier than usual start as Cambridge Minis had to vacate their pitches to make way for Youth team games by 11:15am, so thank you for everyone who made it.
We had just 10 players - perhaps the early start had en effect, or the relatively long journey? - so we split into two squads of 5, Red Team and Green Team. Each team got three matches in and our record on the day was played six, won five, lost just one. How bad? 9 of our 10 players scored tries which was more pleasing. By the way, we have now played a total of 99 matches this season (wow!) winning 60, drawing 12 and losing 27; we have scored 706 tries and conceded 582. Scores and scorers are given at the bottom.
We had our usual struggle to pick out Man of the Match awards: all of the players could have won. In the Red Team, Freddie and Harrison were their usual exemplary selves, and it was a real struggle to pick between Harvey and Lucas, but in the end Harvey just pipped it. Again, in the Green team, any one of the players could have won, but the decision went to Callum, a brand new player who joined us for training last week for the very first time and was playing his first ever match. Despite his inexperience, he scored 5 tries on his debut and really learnt a lot during the morning, constantly improving. An honourable mention to Archie. Well done, Harvey and Callum.
