A great morning despite the trying weather

A quick report on our visit to Watford yesterday. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who made it to the fixture: the combination of clocks changing, miserable weather and the start of the Easter Holiday did not make it easy for anyone, so thank you for your efforts. Despite the weather, I hope that everyone had a great time: I certainly did!

Unfortunately, Watford were very short of players, so they had to combine their Under 7s and Under 8s to get two squads together. We split our 11 players into our usual Red and Green teams, and both got three games in. We won 4, drew 1 and lost 1, scoring 59 tries while conceding 52. Bearing in mind that we were playing against some Under 8s, this is a remarkable outcome. Well done to all the kids!

We were oh so close to my 100% try scoring target: 10 of our 11 players scored (all of them at least twice). The one player who didn't, should have but just couldn't get the ball down. Ho, hum.

We only had one Man of the Match award to give out this week as the other one has not been returned (the holder was ill yesterday). As always, any of our kids could have won. All of them played great rugby in trying conditions, none of them complained about the wet or the cold, all had a great time. The winner, however, is one of my bankers: players who could win on any given week. This week the winner was Archie who has been on an upward trajectory all season, but has been absolutely cracking particularly since our trip to Olney: he could have been named MOTM in any of our games since then. Well done Archie.

A special award this week went to Freddie who has become the first player to join the "200 Club" having scored over 200 tries this season. This, by the way, is the most tries I have seen scored by any player in a season, and must be an all-time Club record.

As next weekend is Easter, there will be no rugby on Sunday. Enjoy the lie-in and don't eat too many Easter eggs! We are back on 12th April in home fixture against Biggleswade, Camelot and St Albans. See you then.

Best regards,

Jimmy
