Under 7s have fun in the sun at Worthing

The highlight of the Mini Section's season was our annual Tour to the South Coast. This season we visited Worthing Rugby Club on Sunday (19th April), where we were joined by Pullborough. I must say how impressed I was by the warm welcome we received, and what a great time we had in probably our last fixture of the season.

We only had eight players on the day, including three day-trippers, as obviously not everyone can get away on Tour, with work and school commitments intervening. So, I would like to thank everyone who went on Tour, from those that took in the whole Friday - Monday experience to those who could only play a flying visit. Eight players gave us enough to from two squads (Red and Green) though without any subs. We saw the downside of this as our players started to flag towards the end of the morning in the beautiful sunshine. Each squad played four matches and our return was two wins, three draws and three loses. Interestingly enough, this is the very first time this season that we have lost more games than we have won, but perhaps not surprising given our slim numbers. Scores and scorers were as follows:

Luton Red Team 8 v 8 Pullborough
Tries: Marcus (3), Gethin (2), Sammy (3)
Luton Red Team 9 v 9 Worthing
Tries: Marcus (2), Gethin (5), Sammy (2)
Luton Red Team 10 v 11 Worthing
Tries: Marcus (2), Gethin (4), Sammy (4)
Luton Red Team 2 v 0 Worthing
Tries: Gethin (2)

Luton Green Team 6 v 2 Worthing/Pullborough
Tries: Harrison (4), Callum, Colby
Luton Green Team 6 v 7 Worthing
Tries: Harrison (5), Callum
Luton Green Team 4 v 5 Worthing
Tries: Harrison (3), Callum
Luton Green Team 5 v 5 Worthing
Tries: Harrison (3), Colby (2)

We had just one Man of the Match award to hand out. As always, we had any number of worth candidates. Special mentions to Gethin and Sammy of the Red Team who linked up really well with each other all day. Another shout out to Jake of the Green Team who played really well and was very unlucky not to score. But the MOTM this week goes to Colby - one of youngest players who scored a cracking pair of back-to-back tries in the final game, including a solo effort from our own try line. Well done, Colby!
