Luton Under 7s played their first game of the new season as we hosted Old Verulamians at Newlands Road. A cracking morning of sunshine was matched by some sparkling rugby.
Verulamians brought enough players for two squads so we split our players likewise into two squads - Red and Green. Both got to play 4 matches apiece and we finished with 5 wins and 3 draws form the 8 games played. A great return. 7 of our 12 players scored tries which is a good start, but my ambition is to see every player scoring. Scores and scorers were as follows:
Luton Red 8 - 6 Verulamians
Tries: Callum (4), Archie (4)
Luton Red 7 - 5 Verulamians
Tries: Callum (2), Josh W, Archie (3), Joseph
Luton Red 7 - 4 Verulamians
Tries: Callum (2), Josh W (3), Archie, Joseph
Luton Red 5 - 5 Verulamians
Tries: Callum (2), Josh W, Archie (2)
Luton Green 6 - 5 Verulamians
Tries: Corey, Ollie, Colby (4)
Luton Green 4 - 4 Verulamians
Tries: Corey (2), Ollie, Colby
Luton Green 5 - 5 Verulamians
Tries: Corey (2), Ollie (3)
Luton Green 5 - 3 Verulamians
Tries: Corey, Ollie (4)
We had two Man of the Match awards to hand out. For the Green Team, a very difficult choice to make. Two of our older players, Callum and Archie, were right in the running with 10 tries each and no less than 35 tags (count 'em) between them. However, the award went to one of our newest players, Josh W, not only for his 5 tries but as our second best tagger. He has really taken to rugby like a duck to water!
For the Red Team, a clear winner emerged in Ollie, not for his tagging (which was excellent) or for his tries, but for the manner in which he played and the way he took his opportunities. Some great running lines. Well done Josh W and Ollie.
