Mud, mud, glorious mud!

Luton Mini Section visited Datchworth on Sunday, 29th November and had a great time. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. Luckily, the weather held off, but we had to contend with strong winds (no long passes!) and ground that had been saturated earlier. The kids loved it - mud, mud, glorious mud - but I am not so sure that the parents did. Grins. I saw one of our players afterwards covered in mud, except the clean bit where his tag belt had been.

On the day we had 13 players so split into our now usual three squads - Red, Green and White. It meant few or no subs avaialble, but it was better to keep as many kids running around as possible. Each squad played three matches and our return for the day was 6 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. 11 of our 13 players scored tries. Not bad. On one pitch, Datchworth wanted to play 5-a-side so lent us a player, Alix. Alix was joint top try scorer (alongsde Callum). This is an admirable illustration of the values of rugby! Scores and scorers were as follows:

Luton Red 7 v 4 Datchworth
Tries: Callum (4), Colby (3)
Luton Red 8 v 10 Datchworth
Tries: Callum (4), Colby, Joseph (3)
Luton Red 6 v 2 Datchworth
Tries: Callum (5), Colby

Luton Green 7 v 4 Datchworth
Tries: Josh W, Archie, Datchworth Alix (5)
Luton Green 9 v 4 Datchworth
Tries: Edward, Archie (3), George (2), Datchworth Alix (3)
Luton Green 7 v 6 Datchworth
Tries: Josh W, Archie, Datchworth Alix (5)

Luton White 5 v 8 Datchworth
Tries: Ollie (4), Jayden
Luton White 3 v 3 Datchworth
Tries: Ollie, Renan, Poppy
Luton White 6 v 2 Datchworth
Tries: Ollie (3), Renan, Poppy, Jayden

This week we had two stand out Man of the Match award winners. None of our players were poor, none of them made many mistakes - on the pitch that I was refereeing, I think I only saw one of our players run into touch all morning. So, all the players could have won, no one ruled themselves out of the running. The first winner was one of our most experienced players: Callum. Not only did he top-score with 13 tries, but he also top-scored with 19 tags. If you keep tagging the opposition, they will find it hard to score tries before making a mistake. Our second award went to one of our newest players: Poppy. Poppy was excellent throughout the morning, despite feeling the cold, particulalry in her hands. However, she did not give up and kept coming back for more. Well done Callum and Poppy.

Just a reminder that we will be at home to Hitchin and High Wycombe on Sunday, 6th December. As usual when we are playing home games, we will be up on Pitch 2, so please use Cark Park 2 (on your left) when you arrive at the Club. I would like everyone there for 10am, boots, belts and tags on ready to go. Plenty of rugby for all!

Best regards,

Jimmy
